Success for Euan at the Whitburn Festival of Brass
13 year old, Blackwood boy, Euan Court had a phenomenal result on Saturday (23 May) at the Whitburn Festival of Brass.
Coalburn Silver Band's Eb bass player, played for the first time in the 16 and under competition at the Whitburn Academy venue. Euan was first to play in a huge field of 17, featuring the cream of young brass players from around Scotland. Euan played the Roy Newsome arrangement of ‘The Bass in the Ballroom’ and when the results were announced, adjudicators Paul Lovatt Copper and Zoe Hancock were unanimous in their decision that first place, Gold medal and certificate along with the Whitburn Trophy be presented to Euan and is pictured below receiving his awards from the adjudicators.
Euan commented, ‘this is the first time I have played in the older age group and didn’t really have any thought of winning, I still can’t really believe it’
An hour after coming off stage at Whitburn, Euan was back on stage in Kinross where he was playing with the Coalburn Silver Band at the Northern Counties Contest. The good news kept coming with Coalburn being awarded the prize for the best 1st section band and 4th overall.
