Success for Coalburn at Scottish Solo and Ensemble Junior Championships
On Saturday 7th February a group of young
musicians from the Coalburn Brass Band family attended at the Scottish Brass
Band Solo and Ensemble Championships at the Howden Park Centre, Livingston.
All the children had qualified for the national championship finals following wins at the West of Scotland regional finals in Kilmarnock in the autumn of last year.
First to perform was the Coalburn Bronze Band ensemble featuring, Anna Biggart from Lesmahagow on Trombone, Jack Archibald from Crawford on Euphonium, Euan Court from Blackwood on Eb Bass, Eva Postma from Lesmahagow on Trumpet and Christopher Barrett from Lanark on Cornet.
The ensemble conducted by musical director Euan Meikle played a selection of music from the show Chicago that went down a treat with adjudicators Owen Farr and Tom Hutchinson who awarded them gold and placed them 2nd in a strong field of 8 other ensembles from all over Scotland.

12-year-old Euan Court represented the Bronze and Silver Band’s in the Solo competition; Euan played the demanding and entertaining ‘Bass in the Ballroom’
He was placed 3rd in a field of 15 very talented young musicians and received a gold award for his performance.

Bronze Band President Liz Cowan commented ‘’this is a fabulous achievement for these wonderfully talented youngsters who are a credit to both the band and their families’’
