Percussion Academy Launch
Coalburn Silver Band is delighted to announce the formation
of their new percussion academy. The academy was officially launched on
Saturday 31st January and will be based at the Band Hall Coalburn.
The academy has been made possible with funding assistance from Creative Scotland’s YMI (Youth Music Initiative) –Access to Music Making Programme.
The academy is an exciting concept offering children and young people within the community the opportunity to engage, discover and develop their musical abilities. Gordon Millar will lead the project; Gordon is principal baritone with the Silver Band and plays a pivotal role in the development of children and young people through the organisations other two ensembles, the Bronze Band and Intermediate Band. Gordon is highly qualified and has recently retired following a career in music education.
The Academy will endeavour to equip students to study and play the full range of orchestral percussion and on launch day attracted a total of six students. Band President Alan Court commented 'we are absolutely delighted to launch our new academy and hope in time it will provide the percussion teams for all of our bands we are equally delighted to have Gordon Millar as the project lead'.
