Fife Brass Band Festival
Coalburn Silver Band recorded another milestone in their long history with victory at the Fife Brass Band Festival. The Festival held last Saturday the 21st April at the Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline was well attended with a total of 19 competing bands.
Coalburn under the direction of their Musical Director Gareth Bowman played a varied and demanding programme of music featuring their Flugel Horn player Trevor Gray. The band received very encouraging comments from the contest
adjudicator Ray Tennant who said ‘‘great playing in a programme of some substance and well directed too’’
When the results were announced, Coalburn were announced as best 1st section band. The band’s featured soloist Trevor Gray won the best instrumentalist prize for the section. The score of 190 was the highest ever recorded by the band in their 110-year history.
Band President Alan Court commented ‘’this was a tremendous performance by the band and all members are to be congratulated for their commitment and dedication, I would also like to mention our incredibly hard working conductor

The band is now looking forward to their fundraising concert on Friday 11th May 2012. The concert proceeds will be donated to SANDS (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity) The concert will be held at St Nicholas Parish Church and begins at 7.30pm, doors open at 7pm Admission will be free, with a collection being taken for the charity. This is a fabulous chance to hear the
prize-winning band and with special guests the children of Coalburn Bronze band along with guest vocal soloists, a special night awaits.
