Brass Open Day - Sunday 8 February 2026

The Coalburn Brass Band Family has once again teamed up with South Lanarkshire Council Instrumental Services and are delighted to announce a fun filled day of workshops with Helen Minshall.
 
The event is free to all and will take place on Sunday 8 February at Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill Community Wing
(​Carlisle Road, Blackwood, ML11 9SB).


Attendees will be split into two groups on the day:
 
Group 1 – from 11am with Helen Minshall and Coalburn Brass Band Family. This group is for everyone who has received lessons at school for 1 year or more. All participants should bring their instrument, a packed lunch and should arrive from 10.45am
to register.

 
Group 2 – from 1pm with Helen Minshall. This group is for anyone who has received lessons at school for less than a year and for anyone who would like to learn how to play a brass instrument with Helen. Participants should arrive from 12.45pm
​to register. An instrument will be provided to any beginners.


Family and friends are welcome to join us at 3pm for our free concert which will showcase all attendees.

We have activities planned for beginners and young people who are receiving brass lessons at school. Instruments will be provided for anyone that doesn’t have one.
 
Helen Minshall is in high demand and delivers many youth workshops all over the UK. Helen is the director of Minshall Music Ltd. In 2024, Helen was awarded Classic FM's Visiting Music Teacher of the Year. For more information about Helen please visit this page and you can watch the video below.
