Coalburn Bronze Band Continues Successes
Following their win at the Innerleithen Youth Brass Band Contest in the Borders in September, Coalburn Bronze Band has hit gold again.
On Saturday 26 October, members of Coalburn Bronze Band attended the West of Scotland Youth Solo and Ensemble contest at the Salvation Army Halls in Kilmarnock.
Second on stage in the Junior Section was 11 year old Euan Court playing ‘TUBA SMARTIES’, a tricky but very entertaining piece arranged especially for the Eb Bass.
Later in the day a 5 piece ensemble, consisting of Emily Barclay and Bruce Hutchens playing cornets, Ross Lyttle on Horn, Rachel Ramsay on trombone and Euan Court on Eb Bass, played an entertaining programme consisting of a variety of popular tunes, including ‘Super Trouper’, Lets Twist Again, Ob-La-Di and Groovy Kind of Love.
At the conclusion of the contest, all contestants were awarded gradings and all the children from Coalburn received the Gold Award. The Ensemble won their section, receiving a beautiful shield and Euan was runner up, receiving a silver medal to go with his gold award. The result means they now qualify for the Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships to be held in Livingston in February 2014.
Musical Director Jayne Brownlie said ‘this was the first time the band has entered this type of contest, and we are delighted with the results. We are hoping to continue to give more of the members this type of opportunity in the future.’
The children of Coalburn Bronze Band are now concentrating hard on the Scottish Youth Championships in Perth on 24th November where
they won last year and will be hoping to continue their successes of this past year. Good luck to them all.
