2011 Band Awards
Saturday January 28th 2012 was the night for Coalburn Silver Band’s third annual awards night. The event held in the band hall, Coalburn celebrated another successful year in the band’s history. Band members, family and supporters packed the hall
and were treated to a beautiful buffet prior to the main awards ceremony.
SBBA Development Officer Andrew Duncan was the special guest and presented the prizes. The first award was for that of Band person of the year, this award is voted for by band members to recognise a band member who has given an exceptional contribution to the band over the past year, the winner with a landslide vote was Band Secretary and Treasurer, Daniel
Beadle.
The next award was the ‘George Blackwood Memorial Trophy’ presented to the most improved member of the Bronze Band (development band) this was also presented by Andy Duncan to joint winners Katie Riley and Esme Kelso.
The remaining awards were decided by the bands musical director Gareth Bowman, the first of these was section of the year and although fiercely contested went to the percussion section. The most improved player of the year went to the bands Solo Baritone player Gordon Millar with the final award of the night going to the player of year, this was presented to the bands Bass Trombone player Kyle MacCorquodale.
A fabulous night was brought to a conclusion with an inspiring and encouraging address from Andrew Duncan, the band are already looking forward to next years event!
